Faithful Companion
Aloka is a white and tan Indian Pariah dog who was once a stray in India. In 2022, he encountered a group of Buddhist monks during their pilgrimage. Despite being hit by a car and falling ill, Aloka kept rejoining the monks until they adopted him.
On October 26, 2025, Aloka joined the monks on their Walk for Peace — a 2,300-mile journey from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. With a distinctive heart-shaped marking on his forehead, he has become a symbol of peace, drawing crowds everywhere he goes.
Walking 20-23 miles per day alongside the monks (and sometimes resting in the support vehicle), Aloka embodies unconditional loyalty, presence, and the peaceful spirit of the journey.

"Peace and may the spirit of this walk continue long after the last step is taken. May every person who hears of it feel even a small softening in their heart, and pass that peace forward in their own way. May we learn to listen more than we argue, to comfort more than we judge, and to remember that every act of kindness—no matter how small—is part of a much larger journey toward a gentler world. Peace be with you!"

About
A group of Buddhist monks undertook an extraordinary walking pilgrimage across the United States — a Walk for Peace stretching from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. Their journey was a living prayer for peace, unity, and compassion in a world that so deeply needs it. Walking in robes with shaved heads, they moved through cities, small towns, and open countryside, sharing silence and loving-kindness with everyone they met.

The Walk for Peace was not a protest or a political statement. It was an act of deep faith — a belief that peace begins with each step, each breath, and each interaction. The monks walked to demonstrate that peace is possible, that it is practical, and that it starts with the individual. They carried no banners, only intention. They sought no attention, only transformation.
Aloka, their faithful canine companion, became an inseparable part of the walk. His name means "light" in the Pali language, and he embodied that meaning — a quiet, joyful presence that brought smiles to every community the group passed through. Aloka reminded everyone that peace is not just a human aspiration, but a quality of all living beings.
